The Eagle House: Eagles emphasises the traits of courage as well as "daring, nerve, and chivalry," and thus its members are generally regarded as brave, though sometimes to the point of recklessness. According to The Headmaster, members of other houses, particularly the Serpents sometimes feel that Eagles engage in "pointless heroics." The Serpent House: Serpents tend to be ambitious, shrewd, cunning, and achievement-oriented. They also have highly developed senses of self-preservation. This means they tend to hesitate before acting, so as to weigh all possible outcomes of a decision (and how these outcomes would personally impact them), unlike Eagles, whose chivalrous natures would likely lead them to react immediately and instinctively. The House of the Monkey: Students belonging to this house are known to be hard-working, friendly, loyal, and non-judgemental. It may be that due to their values, they are not as competitive as the other houses, or are more modest about their accomplishments. They appear to have the least rivalry with the other houses, except in Quidditch.
